Match Review LS13 | PDRM FC 1-1 Selangor FC | We Remain Second In The #LigaSuper2024

Red Giants’ Bid for Four Consecutive Wins Falls Short

The Red Giants' ambition to extend their winning streak to four matches was thwarted as they were held to a 1-1 draw by PDRM FC in Matchday 13 at the MP Selayang Stadium last night.

Dominating the game from the start, Selangor FC launched several early attacks from the right flank. Quentin Cheng's cross found Alvin Fortes, who headed the ball into the net, putting the Red Giants ahead in the 16th minute. They continued to press for a second goal, but PDRM’s defense held firm, and the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, the home side created occasional chances, but Selangor’s new goalkeeper, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz, was always ready to deny them. As the match neared its conclusion, it seemed Selangor would secure the three points. However, Timothy Oluwaseun equalized for ‘The Cops’ in the dying moments, halting Selangor’s quest for victory.

In a post-match interview, Selangor's head coach Nidzam Jamil acknowledged the late lapse that cost his team crucial points. “We should have doubled our lead with the chances we created to put the game to bed earlier, but a moment of carelessness at the end cost us two points,” he explained.

Debut Appearances for Two New Players

Two new signings for Selangor FC, goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz and midfielder Nikola Jambor, made their Super League debuts. Kalamullah started in goal, replacing Azim Al Amin, and performed admirably, nearly achieving a clean sheet before conceding the late goal. Croatian import Nikola Jambor also made his first appearance in the league, coming on as a substitute in the second half.

The Red Giants remain in second place in the 2024/2025 Super League standings, accumulating 26 points after 12 matches. Next, Selangor FC will host South Korean giants Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors for their third match in Group H of the AFC Champions League Two on October 23, 2024, at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya.
